Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how The Egyptian Mau Club (“the club”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit this website, contact us, or apply for membership. The Egyptian Mau Club is the data controller responsible for your personal information.

In plain language: this page tells you what information the club holds about you, why, and what your rights are. This policy is a starting point and is not legal advice; it should be reviewed by the club and, where appropriate, a qualified adviser before the site goes live.

Who we are

The Egyptian Mau Club is a breed club for the Egyptian Mau and a member club of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF). If you have any questions about this policy or about how we handle your information, you can contact us at sandra@honpuss.com.

Information we collect

Information you give us directly when you complete a form on this site:

  • your name, postal address, email address and telephone number;
  • your chosen membership type (on the membership application form);
  • the content of any message or enquiry you send us.

Information collected automatically when you use the site, such as your IP address, browser and device type, and pages visited. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies — see our Cookie Policy.

We do not take card or bank payments through this website. Membership fees are paid offline by bank transfer or cheque, so we do not collect your payment card details online.

How we use your information and our legal basis

  • To respond to your enquiry — on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering people who contact the club.
  • To process and manage your membership — on the basis of taking steps to enter into, and to perform, your membership of the club, and our legitimate interest in running the club.
  • To keep the website secure and working — on the basis of our legitimate interest in protecting the site from spam and misuse.

How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary with:

  • committee members and club officers who need it to manage your membership or answer your enquiry;
  • the service providers that operate this website and its forms and email delivery (our website host, and the Gravity Forms and email-delivery tools used to receive and send form messages);
  • others where we are required to do so by law.

How long we keep your information

We keep enquiry messages for as long as needed to deal with your query and for a reasonable period afterwards. We keep membership records for as long as you are a member and for a reasonable period after your membership ends, so we can administer the club and meet our legal obligations.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it if it is wrong, to ask us to delete it, to restrict or object to our use of it, and to ask for a copy in a portable format. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details above.

Children’s privacy

This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including using a secure (HTTPS) connection and spam-protection tools on our forms. No website can be completely secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
