About the Egyptian Mau Club

The Egyptian Mau Club is the United Kingdom’s founding cat club dedicated to the Egyptian Mau. We are a friendly club that informs, supports and advises owners, exhibitors and breeders of Egyptian Maus, and we welcome new members from both the UK and overseas.

Whether you are interested in showing, breeding, sharing your home with a Mau as a beautiful and characterful pet, or you simply want to learn more about this ancient spotted breed, we hope you will find a warm welcome and helpful information here.

Our aims and objectives

The club’s central aim is to develop and promote the Egyptian Mau in the United Kingdom. In practice, that means:

  • informing and educating owners, breeders and the wider public about the breed;
  • supporting and advising members on all aspects of owning, showing and breeding Egyptian Maus;
  • promoting the breed at shows and safeguarding its health, welfare and future.

A short history

Egyptian Maus arrived in the UK in late 1998. The Egyptian Mau Club held its inaugural meeting at the National Cat Club Show in December 1998, and has been dedicated ever since to the development of the breed in the United Kingdom, as well as to its recognition and promotion by the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy. Through that work the Egyptian Mau has progressed to full Championship status within the GCCF.

A GCCF member club

The Egyptian Mau Club is a member of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), the UK’s premier governing and registration body for pedigree cats. Our Breed Advisory Committee works within GCCF rules to look after the breed’s Standard of Points, its registration policy, and the training of judges — always with the health and future of the Egyptian Mau in mind.

Why join the club?

Members receive friendly support and advice, connect with fellow owners and breeders, and help to promote and protect the Egyptian Mau in the UK. If you love the breed, we would love to have you with us — new members from the UK and overseas are always welcome.
